About the Exhibition
Become an Exhibitor Download CircularSUBCON is recognised as the UK's premier manufacturing supply-chain and subcontracting exhibition, bringing together experienced buyers, tier-1/2 suppliers, OEMs, engineers and industry decision-makers. It is a platform to source new suppliers, compare subcontract manufacturing capabilities, and benchmark technologies and services across sectors including aerospace, automotive, defence, medical devices, electronics, energy and general engineering. The SUBCON 2026 show will bring together 6,000 + industry visitors, 200 + exhibitors showcasing capabilities and technologies, and hundreds of expert speakers. There will be live demos, product showcases, workshops, and networking activities.
The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) represents a historic milestone in bilateral relations — opening up markets, reducing tariffs for both sides on most traded goods, enhancing services cooperation, and laying the foundation for deeper economic integration and strategic collaboration over the coming decade. The deal aims to double bilateral trade from around USD 56 billion (2024-25) to USD 112 - 120 billion by 2030. Major Indian sectors set to benefit include textiles, leather, gems & jewellery, marine products, engineering goods, toys and footwear due to enhanced duty-free market access in the UK. With rising investments in infrastructure, manufacturing and renewable energy, the demand for high-quality industrial components is growing. By offering competitive pricing and advanced engineering solutions, Indian exporters can enhance their presence and build lasting partnerships in UK's industrial sector.

Economic scenario of United Kingdom
The United Kingdom holds significant importance for the global economy due to its robust industrial base, financial strength and role as a global trading hub. It is known for its diversified industrial sector encompassing advanced manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, renewable energy and information technology contributes substantially to global innovation and trade. Moreover, the UK's emphasis on green and sustainable growth, research and high-value industries enhances its influence in shaping global economic trends and technological advancements. There have been some challenges but several reforms are expected needed to provide businesses with certainty relative to pre-pandemic levels.
As per the IMF, United Kingdom's economy experienced a significant contraction in 2020 with a decline of 10.3% due to the pandemic and global disruptions. However, it rebounded strongly in 2021 with a growth rate of 8.6%, supported by recovery in domestic demand and external trade. The economy further experienced slow momentum with real GDP growth rate reaching to 0.4% in 2023 and is projected to be around 1.3% in 2025 as external headwinds remain.
India and United Kingdom's Bilateral Trade
UK is an important market for India. UK holds 16th position among major trading partners for India. It has been among India's top export destination for India during the year 2024-25. Between 2019-20 and 2022-23, India's merchandise exports to UK rose from USD 8.74 billion to USD 11.41 billion, while engineering exports increased from USD 2.59 billion to USD 3.13 billion. This growth indicates that, while the UK's economy has seen fluctuations, exports from India continues to grow.
The product profile of UK's SUBCON dedicated to subcontract manufacturing supply chains, under the engineering industry. In 2024-25, India's total engineering exports were valued at USD 4.01 billion, while total merchandise exports reached USD 14.55 billion, indicating growing opportunities in these segments.
Opportunity for Indian engineering industry in United Kingdom
There is significant scope for India's engineering industry to expand its footprint in the UK market by tapping into key high-potential sectors. Promising areas include electrical machinery and equipment, as well as industrial machinery and components, ranging from heavy machinery to precision instruments. The UK's ongoing construction and infrastructure development drive consistent demand for iron and steel products, creating opportunities for Indian exporters. Similarly, the UK's automotive sector depends heavily on imported auto components, offering a lucrative market for Indian manufacturers. Moreover, the healthcare industry's growing requirement for advanced medical and surgical instruments presents additional prospects for Indian engineering firms. By strategically focusing on these sectors, Indian exporters can strengthen their presence in the UK market.
India–UK CETA
Highlights- Positive Aspects February 2026
Strong and Expanding Engineering Trade Relationship
- The UK is India’s 6th largest export market, after the USA, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Germany, reflecting its high strategic relevance for engineering exporters.
- India’s engineering exports to the UK increased from USD 3.6 billion in 2023 24 to USD 4.01 billion in 2024 25, showing 12% annual growth.Over the last five years, India’s engineering exports to the UK grew at an impressive CAGR of 18%, signalling steady market penetration.
- During the current fiscal, India's Engineering Exports to UK during April-Jan 2025-26 stood at UIS$ 3.89 billion compared to US$ 3.25 billion during April-Jan 2024-25, constituting a share of 3.8% out of India's total global engineering exports of US$ 101.13 billion during April-Jan 2025-26.
Consistent Market Share and Rising Global Importance
- The UK accounted for 3.4% of India’s global engineering exports of USD 116.7 billion in 2024 25 and surprisingly 3.8% of India’s total global engineering exports of US$ 101.13 billion during April-Jan 2025-26.
- India currently holds a 2% market share in UK’s engineering imports, leaving significant headroom for expansion under a trade agreement.
High Concentration in Key Engineering Product Categories
- More than 74% of India’s engineering exports to the UK come from high value categories such as:
- Electrical machinery & equipment
- Iron & steel and articles
- Aluminium and products
- Industrial machinery
- Auto components & vehicles
- Medical devices
- This demonstrates strong complementarities aligned with UK’s industry demand.
Top 15 Products Dominate UK Market Share
- The top 15 engineering product categories accounted for 87% of India’s total engineering exports to the UK in 2024 25.
- Major high growth segments include:
- Electrical machinery & equipment: USD 1.21 bn (+27% growth) constituting a 30% share
- Iron & steel: USD 527 mn (+37%)
- Medical & scientific instruments: +43%
- Aluminium products: +16%
- Cranes, lifts & winches: +17%
Healthy Growth in Bilateral Engineering Trade
- India’s engineering imports from the UK increased to USD 4.4 billion in 2024 25, growing at 14% CAGR, reflecting strong industrial linkages and technology inflows.
- Total bilateral engineering trade rose from USD 7.4 billion in 2023 24 to USD 8.4 billion in 2024 25, a solid 13% expansion.
- Overall engineering trade with the UK has grown at a CAGR of 16% over the last five years.
Strategic Trade Balance Dynamics
- The engineering trade balance remains marginally negative (-USD 0.4 bn in 2024 25), but the stable and rising export share indicates improving competitiveness which a CETA can further strengthen.
Conclusion:
The India–UK CETA provides an exceptionally favourable market access package for India’s engineering sector, with almost all major product groups receiving immediate zero duty access. The agreement pairs these tariff concessions with clear and structured Rules of Origin that support legitimate value addition while offering flexibility in sectors like machinery and aluminium.
Together, these provisions strengthen India’s role in UK and European value chains, enhance export competitiveness for MSMEs, and encourage deeper industrial collaboration. As barriers fall and standards align, CETA positions India to expand its technological footprint, diversify its export basket, and reinforce its standing as a reliable and high value manufacturing partner in global markets.
