Economic scenario of Czech Republic

Czech Republic is recognized as one of the most prosperous and industrialized economies in EU with consistent and moderate GDP expansion due to its sound government policy. It is a high income economy with diversified pattern of development. Czech has a strong industrial base with manufacturing oriented exports, while a business-friendly regulatory framework raised its significance as a preferred place for investment. The industry of Czech Republic is quite developed with machinery, engineering, electronics, automobile manufacturing and brewing as the major industries while tourism and agriculture are also industrially significant. Czech encountered disruptions in its supply chains during the Pandemic leading to a negative GDP growth in 2020 but steadily recovered with a notable rebound to 3.6% real GDP growth in 2021.

As per OECD, Czech Republic's real GDP is expected to see higher 1.0% growth in 2024 as both domestic and external demand show only modest signs of recovery. Investments reached historical highs as a share of GDP. After a slowdown in 2024, investment growth is forecast to remain high in 2025 and 2026, driven by increased absorption of EU funds, a recovery in the residential construction and foreign direct investments. GDP growth is set to accelerate in 2025 and 2026 driven by households' consumption and investment activities.

India and Czech Republic's Bilateral Trade

Czech Republic is an important market for India. Czech Republic is among the top 40 export destination for the Indian engineering industry and 9th largest in the EU region. Between 2018-19 and 2023-24, India's engineering imports to Czech Republic nearly doubled to USD 0.35 billion from USD 0.18 billion driven by a noticeable jump in shipment of 32% over 2022-23. India's major engineering exports to Czech Republic includes Electric machinery and equipment, Auto component, products of Iron and steel, and Industrial machinery among others. Significant potential for expansion of engineering exports still exists for India.

India's total vis-à-vis engineering exports to Czech Republic (USD Million)

The product profile of Czech Republic's MSV Brno 2024 broadly consists of Industrial machinery and Electrical machinery. In 2023-24, India's exports of those two engineering segments to Czech Republic increased by as high as 30% to USD 0.13 billion from USD 0.10 billion in 2022-23. India holds the place among Czech Republic's top 30 suppliers for engineering products, but with a share of mere 1% in Czech's overall import of engineering products. As demand for Indian engineering saw a sudden jump of 30% from Czech in 2023-24, it seems that it is high time to explore avenues further to enhance exports.

Opportunity for Indian Engineering Sector in Czech Republic

Czech Republic is known worldwide for its favorable business environment and strong industrial base. Engineering products like Electrical Machinery and Equipment, Industrial Machinery and parts, Iron and steel and its products, Auto components and parts, Medical and Surgical instruments, aluminium and its products, etc. are the major product groups in the global import basket of Czech Republic.

Furthermore, growing demand for high-quality machinery and equipment and other engineering products coupled with its strategic location, offers Indian exporters a gateway to access not only the Czech market but also the broader European Union market. Indian engineering exporters can capitalize on these evolving opportunities in the Czech Republic.

Czech's strengths in manufacturing and advanced technology make the country a natural fit to partner Indian exporters to ascertain their movement up the supply chain. With continuous focus on innovative and value-added products, the country will become an even more substantial market for the Indian supplier, reflecting an ample scope for the Engineering product segment.

In this background, it is the right time for India to response to the increasing demand of the engineering industry of Czech Republic and explore the untapped potential while enhancing its share in the Czech's market through participation in the MSV Brno 2025. Undoubtedly, the event will play a major role for manufacturers and distributors of the Indian engineering sector, opening doors to major growth opportunities in this industry.
