Economy of Jordan

Jordan's economy benefits from its well-educated population, strategic location, world-heritage tourism sites, and a reputation for stability in a turbulent region. Jordan's economy demonstrated resilience in 2023, achieving modest growth amidst a challenging regional environment. Despite slower growth in Q4-2023, Jordan's economy maintained modest growth in 2023. Real GDP growth rate accelerated by 0.1 p.p. to 2.7 percent in 2023. The economic growth was broad-based, with manufacturing registering a record high, while other sectors sustained strong performance. The economic impact of the conflict in the Middle East on Jordan's economy so far has been relatively contained. The greatest impact is expected from trade disruptions in the Red Sea, which have affected imports and exports through the Aqaba port. Jordan's growth is projected to grow to 2.4 percent in 2024.

India and Jordan's Bilateral Trade

Engineering exports to Jordan was recorded at USD 79.9 million in 2018-19 and it increased to USD 91.9 million in 2019-20 registering a growth of 15%. Due to the pandemic, it declined in 2020-21 to USD 62.6 million. Post pandemic the increase in engineering exports was seen till 2022-23. But again India's engineering exports to Jordan dipped and reached to USD 108.5 million in 2023-24 due to the ongoing geo political crisis. We observe India's engineering exports growth pattern to be in sync with India's total merchandise exports to Jordan. Major engineering panels exported from India to Jordan include motor vehicle/cars, industrial machinery for dairy etc iron & steel , products of iron and steel , electrical machinery, medical and scientific instruments, auto tyres and tubes, and aluminium and products.

During 2023-24, India's combined exports of Industrial & Electrical Machinery to Jordan stood at USD 24.1 million.

Opportunity in Jordan's Industrial & Electrical Machinery industry

India has significant export potential in Jordan, and has become one of the country's largest trading partners. Jordan's industrial production has been growing, with some notable recent developments. This growth was mainly driven by increases in manufacturing, mining and quarrying activity. The industrial sector is one of the most important sectors in the Jordanian economy and considered as of the main pillars for the economic growth and for its sustainability, which go hand in hand with the international and local public orientation. A large number of infrastructure and industrial development projects are currently underway in Jordan. Thus there exists good potential for Indian industries concerning industrial machinery and electrical machinery to achieve the breakthrough in Jordan.
