Economy of Jordan
Jordan has positioned itself as one of the most sought after destinations in West Asia. The country has taken several steps to establish as a market-based and globally competitive economy and encourage more foreign investments. The country’s economy is expected to grow at 2.6% in 2023 with strong performance across all sectors in the first three quarters. While FDI was subdued in 2020 and 2021, it picked up in 2022 and outperformed 2019 levels. While the region is plagued by the conflict in Gaza, as per IMF, the Jordanian economy will be able to come out of this shock with sound economic policies and strong international support.
Bilateral trade between India and Jordan
India’s exports to Jordan have consistently increased in the last couple of years. While there was a decline in exports in 2020-21, it was mainly due to the pandemic. In the next two years, India’s exports to Jordan increased by 40.96% and 141.07% respectively. Between 2018-19 and 2022-23, India’s engineering exports to Jordan also increased by more than 14%. Major items of engineering exports include Motor vehicles, iron and steel and its products, industrial and electrical machinery.
JIMEX 2024 is a premier exhibition which focuses on products such as Electrical, Mechanical Machinery, Automation. The cumulative export of these products to Jordan in 2022-23 stood at USD 56.06 million with a sharp rise of around 23% over 2021-22.
