INTERMOLD has been a leading exhibition to showcase state-of-the-art mold technology in Japan and acts as a platform to offer companies with a global competitive advantage. INTERMOLD is making an aggressive approach to automotive parts, aircraft parts and electronics industries which work closely with molding industry. In addition, the show covers Additive manufacturing, Digital transformation and future plastic processing as a special theme to promote a new business matching between exhibitors and visitors.
The die and mould industry is considered as the mother tool for the production of all industrial good. Japan’s rapid advancement in Industrial machinery has made die and mould industry very important. In August 2022, India exported almost USD 11.2 billion worth of industrial machinery to Japan, 94% high than that of last year, a significant portion of which was also in dies and molds. Given the current trend, it is expected that demand for high precision dies and moulds would increase in Japan in the coming days. Therefore India’s participation in this exhibition would definitely help in increasing India’s presence in the Japanese dies and molds market.
The economy of Japan is the third largest in the world by GDP, and is the world's second largest developed economy. Japan is the world's third largest automobile manufacturing country, has the largest electronics goods industry, and is often ranked among the world's most innovative countries leading several measures of global patent filings. Along with global economy slowing and inflation rising around the world, Japan’s economy has unexpectedly shrunk for the first time in a year. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the economy hard, provoking a marked downturn. However, robust government support and the reopening of the economy led to a partial bounce back. Growth is on course to regain momentum, supported by macroeconomic policies. Real GDP growth is projected at 1.8% in 2023 and 0.9% in 2024 as per OECD.
India-Japan bilateral trade reached US $ 20.6 billion in 2021-22 and Japan ranked as the 13th largest trade partner of India for the year 2021-22. However, the overall rise in bilateral trade has benefited Japan more as India’s trade deficit figures indicates in the table below. Our balance of trade is heavily in favour of Japan and thus both countries need to work towards establishing sustainable trade by diversifying the export basket.
India’s engineering exports to Japan in 2021-22 recorded US$ 1.7 billion, registering a growth of 70% over 2020-21. India’s major engineering exports to Japan include Iron and steel, Aluminium and products made of Aluminium, Electrical Machinery & Equipments, Auto Components/Parts, Industrial Machinery for dairy, agriculture, food processing, textiles, paper, chemicals, etc,
India has an excellent opportunity as the world begins to adopt AM (Additive manufacturing) techniques. Additive manufacturing development and adoption can help India in become a leading manufacturing hub. As the world is still reeling under the supply chain disruptions after the pandemic. AM is likely to simplify supply chains as semi-fabricated products substitute raw materials and suppliers consolidate. Procurements and labour costs will also decrease.
This will help make the Make in India campaign and the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan successful. AM is among the most revolutionary scientific innovations & discoveries. It enables access to cost-effective and flexible manufacturing and designing techniques. It is a boon for small businesses as they can adapt to the changing demand environment due to simplified supply chains and grow faster through innovation and product differentiation. Thus participating in the Japan’s INTERMOLD show will help Indian manufacturers showcase the latest technology and information, and execute active business communication.
